Batterer's Intervention Program (BIP)

The New Hope BIP program is based on the belief that domestic violence can be stopped with proper insight and awareness of one's desire for excessive power and control over his or her partner or family.  This desire is exhibited by verbal abuse, economic abuse, sexual abuse, or by emotional abuse, such as stalking, isolating, threatening, or intimidating the victim.

Our program is designed specifically for domestic violence offenders.  The program consists of 26-29 weekly psycho-educational sessions, each 90 minutes in length.  Participants are expected to discuss the information presented and then demonstrate personal insight by applying the information to his or her personal life and situation.  This discussion is to facilitate awareness into previous abusive patterns.  At all times participants are expected to focus on their own behaviors and will be held responsible for their actions.

2.

New Hope's Anger Management program is for those with uncontrolled anger who are perpetrators of stranger or non-intimate violence.  The program provides techniques for managing anger directed at strangers, acquaintances, friends, or relatives.  It is a psycho-educational program that is five hours in length.   The anger management program is open to both men and women.

4.

Domestic Violence Risk Assessments (DVRA)

The Domestic Violence Risk Assessment also known as DVRA is a thorough assessment not to be confused with the BIP assessment.

BIP assessments are required for everyone who enters a BIP program and it's purpose is to determine the following:

1.  Is the client appropriate and capable of participating in the group process of a BIP program.

2.  Is the client in need of additional services such as mental health counseling or substance abuse counseling.

The purpose of a DVRA is:

1.  Defines the type of violence for the family being assessed.

2.  Determines if there is a pattern of power and control.

3.  Determines who is the batterer and who is the victim in the case.

4.  Determines the level of risk for future violence for the family or individual.

5.  Determines who is at risk as a victim in the future, children, intimate partner or other family members.
